Overnight Shelter Provided to 364 Homeless Adults during the Winter

More than 20 faith organizations in Virginia Beach participated in the 2017-2018 Winter Shelter Program, helping to serve 364 homeless adults during the coldest months. For five months faith organizations rotated weekly to provide overnight shelter, meals, medical care, and other resources to those in need.

The Winter Shelter Program is a prime example of the City, nonprofit, and faith community partnership. The Judeo-Christian Outreach Center (JCOC), under a contract with Virginia Beach Housing & Neighborhood Preservation, operates the Winter Shelter Program and provides participants with transportation from the Lighthouse Center to the faith organizations.
